Call Don recently completed a comprehensive external renovation at 21 Lugton Brae, Edinburgh, transforming the property’s exterior with new cedar cladding, upgraded insulation, improved wall protection, and professionally refurbished window frames.

The project combined building, insulation, timber cladding and finishing works to improve the property’s external appearance, thermal performance and protection against the elements.

🏠 From Damaged Cladding to a Completely Refreshed Exterior

The existing external cladding had deteriorated and required complete replacement.

We began by carefully removing the damaged cladding and preparing the underlying wall structure for the new external system. This provided an opportunity to upgrade the insulation and improve the property’s protection against moisture and weather exposure.

The external wall build-up included:

Existing Cladding → Removal → Insulation → Boarding → Wall Membrane → Cedar Cladding → Protective Oil Treatment

Each stage was carefully completed to provide a durable and properly finished external envelope.

🌲 New Cedar Timber Cladding

The property was finished with new cedar timber cladding, giving the exterior a clean, natural and contemporary appearance while retaining the character of the property.

The cedar boards were installed with careful attention to:

Alignment and spacing
Corners and junctions
Openings around windows
Consistent detailing
Overall visual finish

Once installed, the timber was treated with a UV- and water-resistant oil, providing additional protection against weather exposure while helping preserve the natural appearance of the cedar.

🌡️ Insulation & Wall Protection

Improving the external wall system was an important part of the renovation.

New insulation was installed to improve thermal performance, followed by external boarding and a wall membrane designed to provide additional protection within the wall construction.

This combination helps create a more robust external envelope while improving the property’s resistance to moisture and the changing Scottish weather conditions.

🪟 Window Frame Restoration

The renovation also included the existing window frames.

Rather than replacing the frames, they were:

Cleaned → Prepared → Repaired where required → Repainted

The refreshed window frames provide a clean finish and complement the new cedar cladding, bringing the different elements of the property’s exterior together.
